We have broken our family history guides into two sections Family History for Beginners, which is ideal for those just starting out or need a little jump start with the information they already have. Here we explain about certificates and censuses, the basic starting points of all family history research.
Next is Advanced Family History, for those who are looking to add more information to their ancestors. Here you can find different types of records which will give you more of an idea of the life your ancestor would have had.
Looking for London records?
Ancestry and FindMyPast, over the last few years, been adding some fantastic records from the London Metropolitan Archives or LMA. These include parish and schools.
Records before 1837
If you've got to this point in history then without a doubt you've already done really well. Now things start to change, Sept 1837 was when the registration act was inforced which means the are no more certificates to buy which sounds nice not having to buy anymore certficates at nearly £10 a time but this also means records become that little more harder to find. Read more on records before 1837.
National Archives Index
The National Archives can be daunting for some espically if not sure what your looking for. At Family History Research.org, we have started to index the series numbers that most family historians use. Including Probate, Military and Land Tax.
